Even though you may feel fine following a car accident, you could have sustained injuries such as whiplash that may not surface for hours or even days after the crash.
Chiropractors specialize in addressing the pain and discomfort that often stems from a car accident. Even relatively minor, low-speed collisions can create long-term damage if left untreated.
Here are some reasons why visiting a chiropractor after a car accident is a good idea.
Insurance Usually Covers Your Visit
Following an accident, it’s a good idea to get checked out by a chiropractor even if you do not feel any pain. Even if your medical insurance doesn’t cover the visit, automotive insurance probably will.
Although it is impossible to know whether your insurance company will or will not cover chiropractic visits without speaking with them, the benefits of chiropractic care are often much less expensive for insurance companies than years of prescription medication and possible surgery.
Chiropractors specialize in realigning bones that may have moved or slightly misplaced due to injury to muscles and ligaments attaching to them during your accident. Chiropractic care can help injuries to ligaments and muscles heal as best possible, leaving you with the best chance of a full recovery.
Safety
Chiropractic care is a 100% natural and noninvasive medical treatment. Professional chiropractors go through years of training and must abide by state licensing requirements to practice legally.
As long as your chiropractor is a licensed professional, there is little risk when visiting your chiropractor after an accident. Even children can benefit from a chiropractic exam following an accident.
No Medications or Potential Side Effects
The word chiropractic means “done by the hand.” It is a manual therapeutic treatment that does not rely on medication for effectiveness. Although painkillers (OTC or prescription) can provide temporary relief of symptoms caused by whiplash or other accident related injuries, chiropractic care addresses the cause instead of simply covering up the pain.
Many medications can also have adverse side effects ranging from an upset stomach to much more serious conditions. Chiropractic care eliminates the possibility of these side effects to you or members of your family who experience pain or discomfort after an accident.
Traditional Medicine May Miss an Injury
Following your accident, you may experience pain immediately. However, even if you feel fine, you may have been injured by the impact.
There could be underlying soft tissue damage that may manifest itself as a painful ailment down the road. Current x-ray technology cannot detect soft tissue injuries. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can be used, but this is expensive and often not practical if a patient is not complaining of pain.
A chiropractor can often uncover soft tissue injuries that may go unnoticed by medical doctors because of the specialized training in finding these spinal injuries and misalignments.
Less Invasive
You won’t have to worry about surgery when you visit the chiropractor. Instead of using scalpels, chiropractic professionals use the precision force of their hands to properly align joints following an automobile accident. No patient should ever undergo surgery for a back or neck complaint without first consulting with a qualified chiropractor
Unlike conventional doctor visits which can be uncomfortable (especially if you are in pain), a visit to your chiropractor is usually an enjoyable experience and the benefits can be felt immediately.
The benefits of chiropractic care extend far beyond post-accident treatment. Studies have proven that regular chiropractic care can improve overall health and bodily function. However, if you are involved in an auto accident, a visit to your local chiropractor should be at the top of you to-do list!

My friend was recently involved in a car accident and has had back problems ever since. He is thinking about seeing a chiropractor. I had no idea that after an accident, an insurance company will often cover your visit. That is really interesting, I’ll have to tell him to talk to his insurance company about it.

My husband was recently in a motor vehicle accident, and we are looking at having him visit a chiropractor to help with the accident injury. It’s nice to know that insurance will usually help with the costs, as you mentioned. We’ll be sure to find a licensed professional to help my husband on this road to complete recovery.

I do like how you mentioned that chiropractors can serve as a very safe pain reliever as they are entirely non-invasive and even child-friendly. That sounds to be perfect especially when you are involved in a car or sports accident. Being able to have a professional take care of whatever pain I’ll be having with no needs of an incision is simply the right kind of medical care for me. Thanks for the helpful article detailing the benefits of a chiropractor after an accident!

I’ll see if insurance can cover a visit to the chiropractor as you said so I can recover from the car accident I suffered two weeks ago and save money. I do agree that there are usually no medications or side effects to these visits as you mentioned because it’s similar to physical therapy. Since you pointed out that traditional medicine may miss an injury, I’ll try to go to a chiropractor this month so I can heal normally.

Thanks for pointing out that a licensed chiropractor will ensure that there is a very little risk for you after the accident. I guess I’ll need to see one to finally get rid of the whiplash that I have been enduring since last week. It was last week wherein we hit a pole due to skidding because the road was icy.

Thanks for helping me understand that there might be issues with the tissues that might not show immediately, so you might end up feeling the pain after a while. I will share this information with my best friend so that she will see a chiropractor now that she has been in an accident due to the faulty brakes of her car. This will save her from experiencing pain weeks after the collision with a pole.

I appreciated where you explain that as long as the chiropractor is licensed there is little danger in visiting one after an accident, because they provide natural and noninvasive medical treatment. In my opinion, it would also be important to go to a professional who is experienced at dealing with auto injuries because they have helped patients with similar problems to what you have. I will have to look for an auto injury chiropractor.

I like how you included that you won’t have to worry about surgery when you visit the chiropractor. My husband recently got into a car accident and he always complains about how his back hurts. I’ll make sure to pass this information along to him so he can decide if he wants to see a chiropractor or not.

It’s interesting to know that chiropractors specialize in addressing the pain and discomfort that you may feel after an accident. My brother has been struggling with an old injury, and we are looking for advice about how to treat him. I will recommend him to see a chiropractor and see if it helps him.

I just wanted to thank you for the explanation of seeing a chiropractor after a personal injury. It’s good to know that this kind of treatment after an accident can help prevent problems like headaches and neck stiffness. Perhaps get treatment very soon after to gain these benefits, especially if it can help in the long run.
